New year

Today is New Year's Eve and I still had classes. My writing teacher, Bill, gave us a surprise that is we didn't have the third hour writing class. We all hailed. It was really a good New Year present. After school, Alice and I went to Carrefour to buy some food for hot pot: cabbage, taro, needle mushroom, beef, pork dumpling and three jars of kimchi. In fact, I do not like spicy food but I like kimchi. We had kimchi hot pot for our dinner and saw a movie called The Heartbreak Kid. We did't want to go out because it was too cold. Finally, we went to Tainan city government for New Year celebration before countdown.

I got up early this morning. Ariel and I had breakfast in ORO where serves excellent breakfasts. ORO is located on the first and second floor of the apartment near Jiankang Road. We had potato salad, bacon, eggs, bread and a cup of coffee for breakfast. I really enjoy having American breakfast. Ariel told me that she had worked here since she was a sophomore. The owner of ORO asks that clerks should serve every customer fast, friendly and accurately. I think that the requests are the same as 7-11's. In addition, it's good that there are more than 300 books in ORO and you can read what you are interested.

I felt uncomfortable with my throat after I drank a can of coke on Thursday afternoon. I worried that I might get cold again. After I went back dorm, I drank a lot of hot water. I decided to sleep for a while then go to see doctor. Unfortunately, when I arrived there at 8.45, the clinic was closed. I really did not know why the clinic closes so early. When I got up on Saturday morning, I really caught a cold and sneezed a lot. It's painful that I could not help but keep sneezing and sniffing. I skinned my nose and nostrils by wiping with tissue paper. Oh, God bless me.

Living in the college dormitory is often very different from living outside apartment. In a dorm, you usually live with at least one other person in a small room. You should avoid bothering or annoying your roommates. Another difference is that you should go back dorm before curfew or you'll be punished. Moreover, living in the dorm is more convenient than living outside. You can just walk to classroom instead of riding bike. On the other hand, you can have your own room if you live outside. You can also do whatever you want to do in your room and go back whenever you wanted. However, living in the dorm and living outside are very different experiences.

I had dinner with my relatives in Queena Chinatrust Landmark Hotel. It is located near Yungkang interchange. It's a luxurious place where I had never been. There are some different kinds of restaurant. For example, the big place for special guests is called International Banquet Hall. The buffet where we ate dinner is called City Paris. To my surprise, my older sister came back from Taipei by HSR. She told neither me nor my father. We hadn't seen each other for several months. I really miss her. After dinner time, we chatted and she suggested that I should get in graduate school. I am tired of thinking about what I should do in the future.

An earthquake measured 5.3 on the Richter scale rattled Taiwan at 9:41 on Wednesday morning. It scared both Alice and I and also waked us from a deep sleep. In fact, we had to get up early and do exercise but we were too tired to open our eyes. After earthquake stopped, we washed and dressed as soon as possible then we went to basketball court. It was a nice day. I practiced some skills which I was used to be good at such as jump shot, layup, and set shot. It really makes me feel good when I was sweating.

I had lunch with Alice this afternoon. We walked to a small noodle restaurant because of delicious noodle soup. We ordered two bowls of noodle soup then something happened. I was badly bitten by mosquitoes on my legs and I felt very itchy. I had an unpleasant feeling that made me scratch it. It’s so painful for me that I couldn’t concentrate on my food. I had to move my legs all the time in order to avoid biting by terrible mosquitoes again. After we finished the meal, I told the owner that there were many mosquitoes here. They were surprised. They told me that dengue fever was expanding. I think I have to do medical check carefully.

My cousin came to visit me on Monday afternoon. We planed to play basketball but there were no any vacant basketball court. Then we borrowed two badminton rackets and a shuttlecock from the sports center and went to school gym. My cousin is younger than I for 2 months so we were classmates in junior high school. After we graduated, we seldom meet each other. We not only played badminton but also talked about career in the future that day. In fact, he is a fireman already. After that, I took him to night market and we finished our dinner there. Finally, I took him to train station. He must go back Tao- Yuan for work. Both of us hope that we can see each other soon.

Alice hurt her waist yesterday because of mopping the floor. I took her to see the doctor although it was raining and cold outside. We spent about 20 minutes getting there by bike. It was really chilly!! Then we took off our raincoats and entered the clinic. The doctor checked Alice's waist and said that she strained a muscle in waist. He plastered the waist and gave her one more plaster. She could not take shower for one day. All I want to say is that the doctor just took about 1 minute to diagnose. Alice paid him $150 for a plaster. It's very expensive.

How to do laundry? Here are some steps to make your clothes clean. First, take all of your dirty clothes in the blanket. Then, go to the laundry room. Next, open the lid of the washing machine. After you open it, put the clothes and washing powder into the machine. Third, set the timer and the water level. After that, close the lid and press the bottom to make it work. Then all you have to do is waiting. Finally, you can get all clean clothes.

I had not done any exercise for about 4 months. I am afraid that I am not healthy as before so I think I should exercise more. Alice and I played badminton in school on Wednesday morning. We got up early and ate breakfast before exercising. It was a windy day. The badminton got out of control for many times. Alice and I also picked up the badminton for several times. Then we decided to change the place. It was not easy to move my body quickly. It seems that I am a young person but with an old body. How terrible it is!!

Alice, Chezzie, Jamie, Nicole and I went to An-Ping after school on Monday. We ate Fried Buns and Tofu pudding and also took some pictures. After that, we went to Yen-Ping Street and bought the traditional cracker with the shape of ox tongue which is called gyutan or beef tongue. It tastes sweet. Then we decided to eat ginger duck soup with Chinese herb in my room. Ginger duck soup with Chinese herb is a kind of hot pots. It can make you warmer after you eat in the winter. We bought a lot of different vegetables and green bean noodle. We really had a good time.

I went home on Saturday morning. After lunch, my father took mother and me to Dong-Shih Park. The park is near the sea so sea breeze is strong there. There is full of visitors on the weekend. When I got off the car, I saw many kites in sky. It has been a long time since I flew a kite last time. And some teachers played dodge ball with students on the beach. The sun was shining, and the nice weather made me feel relaxed and delighted. We just took a walk around the park and then left for Bu-Dai Market. The market is also near the sea and the seafood there is fresh. My father bought some sashimi for dinner and we went home before sunset.

Today is my last day to work in 7-11. I felt a little bit strange. In fact, I had not worked for a week because I had to prepare for the exam. Coworkers all treated me friendly but I have to quit. Mr. Luo, my best colleague, thought that from now on I won’t go back there. I actually never go to Kun-Shan University before I got the part-time job. When I was off-duty, I felt sad to leave. Mr. Shih, who works on the night shift, gave me a gift. Mr. Luo hopes that I can use my time well and be happy every day.

I did my best to cope with midterm exam. I was so tired that I was tossing and turning at nights. It's painful to have headache when I must think with brain. Finally, midterm exam was over. I can have enough time to sleep and watch movies at dorm. I can hang out with my friend and go home. How nice! And the most wonderful thing is that Friday is my last day for part-time job. I will have a lot of free time to finish what I want or plan to do.

My favorite sport is playing basketball. I have played basketball since I was seventeen years old. When I was in junior high school, I always play ball with my classmates at school or even at the park every day. Sometimes we grouped and had games with other teams. It does really have fun no matter we win or lose games. I had experienced a basketball competition when I was a freshman in university. I played on a team and we practiced every night. It's hard to learn some skills but I never give up playing. Finally, we got the forth grade of the contest. That's the most impressive experience I ever have.

This Thursday, I had an oral midterm exam. Chad asked me some questions and I chose the topic: if I could, I would change my personality, to answer. Actually I am easy to lose my temper. When I felt hungry or tired, I was grumpy and impatient to everything. I do not talk to anyone even it's necessary to discuss at that time. Sometimes, I did something out of control when I was unhappy or angry. In fact, I did a very unreasonable thing to my close friend last semester. One day, she said something annoyed me but she didn't know. I just threw out my drink with anger. And the action really scared her. She had no idea why I did the strong reaction. Then we had not talked for almost a week. I was very regretful and trying to seize a chance to apologize. I braced myself for saying sorry and then she said she did not angry after that day; she was only pretending. She wanted to let me feel guiltier about what I had done.

Reading presentation

Chezzie, Nicole, Jamie and I did a presentation of IKEA advertisement in reading class this Tuesday. Teacher asked us to explain the meaning of ads, vocabularies and phrases. We had prepared it for six days. We put two interesting videos at the end of presentation. Then we rehearsed all till midnight. It's really hard work even though we have done for several times before. After we finished it, reading teacher made a wonderful comment on our report. He said that our content is clear attractive and grammatical. We all felt relieved to do a good job and everyone like it.

Bad day !!

I was uncomfortable with sneezing and runny nose on Friday. It made me tired and weak but I still have to work. When I wake up Saturday morning, I have a terrible runny nose, a headache and a sore throat. It's the worst thing for me because it really took me a long time to feel better before. Then I went to see the doctor and took some medicine. After going back dorm, I unfortunately spilt a cup of hot milk on Alice's notebook. How it did happen!! I just took her notebook to ASUS store by bike as faster as possible. I do hope it doesn't cost me much money to repair. Today is not my day at all.

Last year, I went to Taipei with my parents for Mother's Day. I was so glad to visit my grandparents and my older sister who worked in Taipei because we hadn’t seen each other for a long time. My sister, who studies in Kaohsiung made a big cheese cake and sent it to Taipei. I like the cake and tasted it with Taiwan beer. I thought it was a special taste. And then we bought a bunch of flowers for mother because she raised and educated us for more than ten years. We appreciated her very much.

future

I have thought about future for a long time but I still have no ideal with that. What can I do in the future? Be an English major student, it seems I can do many different kinds of careers. For instance, be a translator or an interpreter, be a teacher or a secretary, and be a business people or a seller. However, the careers are like the buildings what I can see on the top of mountain. They are all I can see and know but blurred. Maybe it does necessarily spend a lot of time finding the career which I really interested in.

I have done many part-time jobs since I was seventeen. My first job is in 7-11 and now I am in 7-11, too. I have done it for 7 months. The 7-11 is beside Kung-shun technology of university so that I spend about fifteen minutes getting there by motorcycle every day. It really takes me a lot of time. I was too tired to keep doing it. I am deliberating whether or not to quit the job because of money. The reason why I don’t ask my parents to give me money is the action make me embarrassed. However, I am a senior student now. I am so stressed out that I think I should quit the job. I want to focus on my studies.

First, I am sorry that I skipped the third hour of class without telling you the reason last Monday. I took a rest in dorm because of headache. Then, it's hard for me to produce three 100-word essays a week because I don't know what I can write in blog. As a student, I attend school, eat meals, and do the part-time job almost everyday. It's all what I did a day and there is nothing interesting. It seems that I have to do something special because I must produce the essays. It made me painful and tired. Maybe we can change the rule to write assignments again.

Barbecue

I really had a good time with my friends on Oct. 10th. At first we decided to watch the firework show for double tenth day in Bingdong. Unfortunately, Stanly had his car repaired that day and what we can do just change our plan. We made a decision to barbecue beside dormitory 1. We bought some food such as meat, corn, green pepper, fish, mushrooms, etc. When we built a fire and started to barbecue, it was raining. We picked up food and tool into the cabin which beside dorm 1. Then we continued to barbecue until it stop raining. We chatted and played till 11 o'clock. Although we can't watch the firework show, it's still a wonderful day.

Idioms

Chad, my oral teacher, asked us to find some idioms and write them down last week. I fund some idioms on internet, for example, to pull someone's leg means to make joke to someone. And you are an apple of my eye means that I like you very much. One of idioms what Chad taught made me impressed is breaking a leg. The idiom, break a leg, derives from a story. In the end of performance, performers will appreciate audience with their knees bent. And they have to keep the action until audience stop clapping. Sometimes, they did a very nice performance and audience clapped for 10 minutes even. There were aches in their knees as if their leg was broke. Therefore, breaking a leg means to do a good job or good luck.

It has been a long time since I went home last time because I am too busy to go home. Finally, I went home yesterday. And my older sister came back from China, too. My parents were really happy and my father prepared one of my favorite foods is beef noodles. We ate the dinner and drank some beer. I talked about my school life and my sister talked something about China. The harmony in home really relaxes me as if the home is heaven. I think I can make up my mind to quit the job and go home once a week to companion with my parents.

Today, I was on the way to 7-11 as usual.

The time was six o’clock so the policemen started

to conduct traffic during the rush hours.

When I stopped on red, I saw a taxi was turning right.

Then, the taxi bumped into the bike in front and

the boy fell down from the bike.

The taxi driver got off the car as soon as the traffic police came.

The taxi driver made me fell badly because they usually

drive on the road rudely and do not follow the traffic rules.

In short, I really hate taxi driver so I never take it.

I did not have to go to school for four days because of national
holiday is called “Moon Festival.”


However, I still have to do part-time job on holiday.
Every classmates, even roommate, went back home and I was
alone in dorm.


I thought about whether I should quit the job or not.
But when I think of personal financial problem, I just desist
from quitting the job.

I have worn the glasses for 10 years.
When I was 10, I was told by the doctor that I was myopic.
Now, I am near-sighted of 850 degree.

Recently, my old glasses were broke. I bought a new one last
Sunday and it costs me about NT3700.
I bargained with the glasses shop owner over the price because
it’s a big money for me.

I have three foreign teachers this semeter .

Elena is my second year writing teacher because I was failed last year.

Elena came from Russia. She is kind and always smiles.

She introduced her background and Russia culture.

She speaks English with so special pronunciation that I have to pay more attention to understand what she said.

I hope she can’t ask us to do much homework or I will fail again.

Introductory Level oral translation

The teacher asked us to read the article loudly for 15 minutes
everyday and we will get ahead with public speaking skills.
In English area, we may get the carrier for trading, teaching,
lecture writing, and translation.
I am more interested in translating.
It's a new challenge for me to speak English fluently on stage.
I think I have to use my time well and get more practice.

The TOEIC Test

I attended a course called “Applied English” today.

Teacher taught us eight keys to higher scores on the TOEIC Test.

And TOEIC Test is a standardized test designed to measure people’s English ability.

TOEIC Test is more functional and international than GEPT.

I concentrated on the keys what teacher emphasized again and again.

I hope I can pass and get more than 730 scores on the TOEIC Test before I graduate from university.

Busy day

Today is the first day of new semester. I had nine classes for Monday and I even had to do the part time job in 7-11 after school.
I felt tired and I almost fell asleep when I am on the way to office.
We stocked with a plenty of goods in our store and there are many consumers tonight.
I was so busy that I did not have time to eat dinner. When I took a short break finally, it almost 10:30 p.m.
It is tough for me to write a journal everyday because I usually come off duty at 11:00.


P.S. I am sorry that i didn't post my diary successfully yesterday because i "save" it not "post" it in blog. I noticed this problem today and post homework immediately.
